  1. Would you consider Sevenly a for-profit company? Does the term “for-purpose” as Adam mentions apply to only non-profits or would this also fit for a company that is for-profit but gives substantial amounts of its profits to a specific cause?

    • Hi Kelly, great question. Yes, Sevenly is a for-profit company. And yes, both non-profits and for-profits can be “for-purpose” companies. 🙂 There are quite a few out there, actually!

I’m 28yrs old with two beautiful girls. My youngest daughter was born with spina bifida and uses a wheelchair. She started kindergarten this year and we’ve had issues with recess because there is no wheelchair accessible playground equipment. It’s been on my heart to start a non-profit that would help schools raise money and get playgorund equipment. I just really don’t know where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    • Wow Sami, you could really make a huge impact in this world by raising more awareness and funding for this issue. My best advice is to go through Startupcamp – that would help launch you into this venture as prepared as you could be.

    • Sami,
I just read your comment and would love to be able to assist you with your playground project. I am the president of a tiny non-profit and I am working to build a park in our community for children and adults with disabilities. Check out our website. http://www.BigDreamsPlaygrounds.com
Becoming a non-profit is actually pretty easy, a little costly, but the benefits are amazing. Also, check out Shane’s Inspiration. They are a huge non-profit out of LA and they are building dozens of these parks all over the country. They may be able to help you too.
      Good luck!!
